It's colour derives from trace elements of Iron and Aluminium and it is found all over the world, though some of the richest deposits are in South America. Metaphysical & Healing Properties Amethyst is a stone of protection and purification and, with its strong Crown Chakra affinity, is often used to help create grounding and stillness for meditation, whilst also aiding the user to achieve ever higher levels of consciousness. History The name comes from the Greek word amethystos from ἀ- a-, "not" and methysko,"intoxicate", a reference to the belief that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness. The ancient Greeks wore amethyst and carved drinking vessels from it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication. Egyptian records credit it with having powers to protect against poison and toxicity and it was worn as a Talisman by soldiers to instill a sense of calm during times of danger.
